Portal series Wikipedia
In Portal 2, three more such cores (beyond Wheatley) are introduced including the irrelevant Fact Core, the bold Adventure Core, and the space-obsessed Space Core, each voiced by North. For all its heady delights, Portal is a short-lived feast and can be reasonably completed in as little as five hours. To help draw things out a bit, Valve has included six advanced chambers, all of which are existing test chambers tweaked to present a tougher challenge. You can also take on challenge maps and attempt to complete the test chambers with the least number of portals, the least steps, or in the least time. Ever since it was originally released more than six months ago, there has been ample time for the online community to produce a bevy of maps that, though varying in quality, are freely available for any test-chamber-hungry portaler to download.
Portal was acclaimed as one of the most original games of 2007, despite some criticism for its short duration. It received praise for its originality, unique gameplay and a dark story and sense of comedy. GLaDOS, voiced by Ellen McLain in the English-language version, received acclaim for her unique characterization, and the end credits song “Still Alive”, written by Jonathan Coulton for the game, was praised for its original composition and humor.

To recreate some of the better scenes from the series, consider using your island residents as extras in curated photo shoots for different games or portions of the story to illustrate more of your photographic expertise. Try out photoshoots that include a stressed-out villager that has just broken their dalgona or perhaps one that has fallen into a trap hole and will be eliminated. As with the other detachedgaming games in The Orange Box, Portal includes achievements, which count towards the player’s Xbox 360 gamerscore on that system, or Steam’s own private achievement system on the PC. Portal’s main mode is a story campaign, consisting of nineteen chambers with environmental puzzles, followed by a long, linear section leading directly to the final boss encounter.

Excluding Steam download sales, over four million copies of the game have been sold since its release, spawning official merchandise from Valve including a model portal gun and plush Companion Cubes, as well as fan recreations of the cake. The Source Engine’s physics system allows kinetic energy to be retained through portals, requiring creative use of portals to maneuver through the test chambers. This gameplay element is based on a similar concept from the game Narbacular Drop; many of the team members from the DigiPen Institute of Technology who worked on Narbacular Drop were hired by Valve for the creation of Portal, making it a spiritual successor to the game.
Valve’s Canceled Portal Prequel Revealed
You’ll retain your momentum while going through the portal, so entering the floor portal at speed will rocket you out of the wall portal perpendicular to the floor. This has a profound impact on your strategy, but not all portal-thinking is strategic. If you place one portal at your feet and the other on the ceiling overheard, will you fall forever? Or if you put two portals on the floor side by side, could you create a reasonable facsimile of whack-a-mole?
The magic of Portal is that it truly does inspire this unique flavor of spatial imagination, and once you get a taste, you’ll be delighted to find yourself thinking in portals even when you’re not in front of your PC. After finishing the final chamber Chell is praised by GLaDOS for coming this far but she must be destroyed, forcing Chell to escape from the approaching furnace, deeper into the facility. Following signs from what is possibly a previous test subject, she makes her way toward GLaDOS.
Entering this when logged in or after finishing the application will give the player a message from an employee of Aperture Science and a video feed of the holding cell where Chell starts in Portal. On March 5, 2010, Portal 2 was officially announced after a series of cryptic clues were released in the form of an update to Portal. Chell makes her way through the maintenance areas and empty office spaces behind the chambers into the piping areas, sometimes following graffiti messages which point in the right direction. The graffiti includes statements such as “the cake is a lie,” making it more obvious that GLaDOS has only malevolent intentions. This could be done in either Harv’s photo studio or in a dedicated area on the player’s island, so there are limitless opportunities to turn this location into a cuter version.
Many criticized the PS Portal’s lack of direct streaming at launch, but have since praised the feature’s smooth rollout even in beta. No, using PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player and PlayStation® Remote Play does not require a PlayStation Plus membership2. If you are using Remote Play to play a game that requires a PS Plus membership to access multiplayer, then you would need to have an active membership to access that game’s multiplayer features. Discover some of the many ways PlayStation 5’s dedicated remote player can transform when, where and how you play – making your gaming time more flexible, convenient and immediate than ever before. PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player can deliver silky-smooth gameplay at up to 60fps with high image clarity on its 1080p resolution screen3. Sure, you know that if you place portals here and there, you will enter here and exit there, but what if here is the floor 20 feet below you and there is a spot high up on the wall?
GLaDOS berates Chell and prepares a “surprise”, only for a personality core to fall off; Chell drops it in an incinerator. A six-minute countdown starts as Chell incinerates more cores, while GLaDOS attempts to discourage her both verbally, using a series of taunts and increasingly juvenile insults, and physically by firing rockets at Chell with the Rocket Sentry. After she has destroyed the final core, a portal malfunction tears the room apart and pulls everything to the surface. An update to the PC version of Portal shows Chell being dragged away from the scene by an unseen entity speaking in a robotic voice, thanking her for assuming the party escort submission position. The key difference in the signature portal mechanic between the two games is that in Narbacular Drop the player can place a portal on a wall visible through another portal, whereas in Portal, the handheld portal device cannot fire a portal shot through a portal. However, the handheld portal device can fire a portal shot while the player is standing in a portal.
